About this role

Our Cook works as a team member in the facility kitchen and prepares adequate and nutritional meals for the patients and staff. It is also responsible for rotating food stores, ensuring food is safe for consumption, and cleaning and sanitizing work areas throughout shift. This position reports pertinent information to the Food Service Director/Manager for follow-up.

What you bring to the table

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience:

• One (1) year cooking experience required

• Experience in commercial, military or other institutional setting preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

• Must be certified through HACCP or ServSafe Food Safety Sanitation Course or must obtain certification within 60 days of employment

What you will do

1. Follows established menu schedule and prepares menu items according to appropriate food recipes.

2. Cleans kitchen equipment. Follows weekly cleaning schedule for all equipment and ensures equipment is in proper working order. Reports any equipment repairs immediately to the Food Service Manager/Director.

3. Ensures food is not left at improper temperatures, prevents cross-contamination of foods, and ensures a safe environment for the patients and staff.

4. Follows proper sanitation practices such as daily cleaning and proper storage. Ensures that temperature sheets are completed daily, and empty boxes and trash are removed throughout shift. Also follows the clean-as-you-go practice and is evident when kitchen is inspected.

5. Stocks and rotates supplies. Ensures storeroom and cooler are stocked in a timely manner. Items needed to meet the daily menu requirements are available in the kitchen.

6. Completes production records and temperatures for foods: Production records are filled out for each meal and all food is accounted for each shift. Ensures all special dietary needs are met according to the menu. Ensures temperatures are logged for each food item before leaving the main kitchen and proper temperature are met.

7. Complies with local Health Department standards on personal hygiene (grooming) and adheres to the infection control policy regarding illnesses.

8. Is sensitive to cultural diversity issues, treats patients as individuals, and considers the culture of the patients when providing care and treatment.

9. Is knowledgeable about care and treatment needs of patients of different ages. Provides individualized care and treatment that is consistent with/sensitive to the age and life span developmental needs of each patient.

10. Must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.

11. Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.

12. Must be alert at all times; pay close attention to details.

13. Must be able to work under stress on a regular or continuous basis.

14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation Range

$14 - $18 / hour
