Desirable Qualification: Bilingual/Biliterate in Designated Language: English/SpanishGonzales Unified School District Food Service Supervisor DEFINITION Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Business/HR to oversee the every day business functions of the District Nutrition Program. SUPERVISOR Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent of Business/HR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS To perform a job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed in the job description are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES Essential Duties: -Directs the district nutrition program in conformance with federal, state and district policies -Complies with State and Federal Child Nutrition Guidelines -Recommends and assists in the selection, assignment, transfer and retention of food service personnel -Evaluates all food service personnel and recommends for or against permanency of probationary employees -Maintains employee attendance records and calls in for substitute employees -Determines and accounts for labor, materials, overhead costs and recommends the budget with the responsibility of maintaining department solvency -Supervises and participates in the maintenance of proper sanitary food service practices and for quality control of food service and preparation -Prepares menus according to standard federal and state guidelines and places orders of appropriate food products and supplies as necessary -Maintains inventory and checks condition of food upon arrival and accepts/signs for deliveries wherever necessary -Supervises and participates in taking monthly inventories of food and equipment -Keeps a variety of records of cafeteria activity including food production records and prepares a variety of requested and required reports -Coordinates cafeteria service with other school activities -Knowledge of accounts for receipts -Responsible for the clerical functions pertaining to the Cafeteria -Process of Free and Reduced Meal applications -Maintains contact with parents and students in regards to Cafeteria concerns Other Duties: -Performs other related duties as assigned. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS Physical, mental and emotional stamina to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position; manual dexterity sufficient to write, use telephone and business machines (including typewriter, computer, calculator); vision sufficient to read printed materials; hearing sufficient to conduct in person and telephone conversations; speaking ability in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversational distance and on the telephone; physical agility to push/pull, squat, twist, turn, bend, stoop and to reach overhead; physical mobility sufficient to move about the work environment (office, district, from school site-to-site), drive an automobile, and respond to emergency situations; physical strength sufficient to lift 25 pounds; physical stamina sufficient to sit for prolonged periods of time; mental acuity to collect and interpret data, evaluate, reason, define problems, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, make valid judgments and decisions. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience -High School diploma or equivalent -Associate Degree in Food Service Administration, Food Service Management, or directly related field, or a combination of three to five years training and experience which could provide the desired knowledge and abilities Knowledge of -Preparation and administration of district nutritional program budget -Supervision, training and evaluation of food service personnel -State and Federal Child Nutrition Guidelines Ability to -Plan, organize, direct and coordinate cafeteria records -Communicate orally with staff, administration and the public regarding needs, budgets, rules and regulations, employee/employer relations and personnel evaluations -Operate computer equipment, copy machines, typewriters, calculators and other office machines with dexterity -Lift and/or carry office supplies and printed material weighing up to 25 pounds -Carry out assigned duties without supervision -Drive a vehicle and posses a valid California driver's license -Use personal vehicle in the course of employment DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS -Experience and or ability to work with culturally and linguistically diverse groups. -Ability to use a language other than English -Individuals must possess maturity, emotional stability, interest and an understanding of students. -California Public Education, food service experience desired -Knowledge of accounts for receipts -Simple bookkeeping practices -Knowledge of current developments in food service management and in child nutrition requirements Adopted by the Board of Education: August 13, 2002
