My Sisters Place, Inc. Post Office Box 29596 Washington, DC 20017 Chef / Kitchen Manager POSITION DESCRIPTION My Sisters Place, Inc. (MSP) is a community based non-profit organization that provides comprehensive and holistic direct services via intervention, prevention, educational programs and services to battered women and their children. The Chef / Kitchen Manager has a wide range of duties and responsibilities. The most important is to ensure that quality culinary dishes are served on schedule. Everything that leaves the kitchen is the responsibility of the Chef. The Chefs duties include but are not limited to: preparing; cooking and serving a wide variety of nutritious, well balanced meals to clients and visitors; menu planning and maintaining mealtime schedules; maintaining a clean, sanitary, well organized kitchen and dining room area. The Chef maintains complete control of the kitchen at all times and commands the respect of any and all kitchen staff. Additionally, the Chef performs administrative duties including ordering supplies and kitchen staff scheduling. RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for all kitchen administration; Handles and prepares food in accordance with sanitary regulations; ensures observance of safe and sanitary food-handling practices; Prepares nutritious, well balanced, appetizing meals; Meets required meal schedules; Responsible for food storage and takes necessary measures to avoid food waste; Follows menus and special diet instructions; Consults with appropriate personnel for menu planning and budgeting; Ensures that clients receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere; Maintains a clean and sanitary kitchen and dining room; Ensures proper maintenance of all kitchen equipment to ensure optimum performance and maximize lifespan; Establish and maintain contact with appropriate vendors; Responsible for setting up serving area for three meals per day; Food inventory and ordering; Regularly inspect facilities and equipment to ensure regulatory compliance at all times; Performs other duties as supervisor may deem necessary. QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma with cooking diploma; apprentice or on the job training; vocational or technical schools, or equivalent. College degree preferred. Minimum of 3-years experience in food or culinary services, preferably in an institutional setting; Kitchen management experience required; Experience in institutional food preparation and handling is preferred; DC Food protection certificate required; Knowledge of special and modified diets such as high protein, low cholesterol, low fat, calorie restricted, and sodium restricted diets; Skill in the operation and maintenance of all standard food service equipment used in large quantity food production; Knowledge of implementation of standard sanitation regulations and proper food protection procedures; Cleanliness and organization a must; Great decision making skills; Excellent communication skills; Punctual; Commitment to MSPs mission and culture; Excellent interpersonal skills; Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people; Proven ability to follow directions and work independently; Must be a team player and have a passion for cooking.
