Category Manager, Food & Beer

Our client is a leading distributor of consumer packaging to wine, beer and food producers. We are seeking an excellent market strategist to grow market share in the food container category. The Packaging Sales and Marketing Manager will provide leadership and direction to the Territory Sales Reps, develop and strengthen key customer relationships, manage the sales and marketing budget, forecast sales and report on results to executive management. Our client is on very solid ground financially and they are fully capable of managing and scaling to accommodate dramatic growth in the food segment.

Primary Responsibilities:

Manage beer and food bottle sales effort

  • Develop the sales budget
  • Establish pricing guidelines
  • Review and approve quotes
  • Manage margin for the category, for product groups and for individual customers
  • Analyze competitive activity
  • Identify opportunities
  • Project Year End sales
  • Analyze and report sales results to GM and Chairman
  • Prepare expense budget and manage sales expenses

Build relationships with the customers and understand their business

  • Oversee customer communications and sales visits
  • Work with customers on needs and avoid price competitions
  • Manage contracts
  • Maintain profile within industry and at trade events
  • Manage customer problems, review corrective actions (repack, claims etc)

Establish plan for category growth

  • Develop and launch new products
  • Forecast stock inventory needs
  • Plan and execute the long term strategies needed to evolve food and beer sales
  • Share organizational vision and goals

Evaluate and build the sales team

  • Train and evaluate each salesperson
  • Determine appropriate staffing
  • Conduct annual reviews and recommend raises

Experience:

  • 10 years of sales; five or more years in sales and marketing leadership roles
  • Beer or food container sales is preferred but not required
  • Proven leadership capabilities in attracting, retaining and development of key talent
  • BA/BS required
